Become a Reading Buddy & Help Students in San Marcos CISD Succeed!

The Chamber is partnering with Communities In Schools to support students in SMCISD. We need volunteers for Mentors, Reading Buddies, and Math Buddies at schools across San Marcos.

What is a Reading Buddy?

Reading Buddy is a caring adult who spends 30–60 minutes a week reading with an elementary student. By showing up consistently, you help children strengthen literacy skills, build confidence, and develop a love for reading that lasts a lifetime.

Just one hour of your week can make all the difference in a student’s life.

Why Volunteer?

Boost Literacy: Many students need extra practice to become strong, confident readers.

Build Confidence: A positive role model helps students believe in themselves.

Strengthen Community: When businesses and individuals give their time, it creates stronger schools and a stronger San Marcos.

Whether you volunteer on your own or organize a team from your company, your participation makes an impact. Businesses are encouraged to sponsor employee volunteers as part of their community engagement and team-building efforts.
